Sustainability Certifications

ATI Textile and our partner mill, Sungmin Textiles, recognize that sustainability is a long term commitment, as standards for responsible manufacturing practices are constantly evolving. This is why Sungmin has invested extensive time and effort into earning globally recognized sustainability certifications and is continually working to earn more. Below is an in-depth description of each certification awarded to Sungmin, what each certification requires and why it is important. Some certifications are currently in progress and we will continue to update when each is received.

Bluesign

Sungmin has currently obtained the Bluesign certification for their printing inks and is in the process of obtaining the certification for Sungmin’s manufacturing site. Bluesign traces each textile’s path along the manufacturing process and uses strict criteria to assess responsibility and sustainability with regards to people, the environment and resources. Bluesign approved status ensures materials and production processes are optimized for sustainability so customers can feel good about their purchases.

Their comprehensive product and process tests guarantee risk management, consumer and environmental protection, as well as legal conformity.

Global Recycled Standard

Sungmin is scheduled to have a factory audit with GRS at the end of October 2020. Developed in 2008, the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is a holistic standard that verifies a product has the recycled content it claims. GRS certification is administered by the Textile Exchange, a global non-profit dedicated to reducing the textile industry’s impact on the world’s water, soil, air and people. They ensure that products labeled ‘sustainable’ are actually produced sustainably, and even go a step further to ensure safe and equitable working conditions, as well as environmental and chemical practices, are used throughout production.

Forest Stewardship Council

In fall 2020, Sungmin will receive the FSC certification on chemical management, health and safety of production site, and environmental management of water and air emissions, soil contamination and waste management. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification ensures that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits.
